I found Lake Mineral Wells State Park west of Dallas-Ft. Worth, and seemed like a nice place to check out. It also connects to the Lake Mineral Wells Trailway, a trail between Mineral Wells and Weatherford.

Many of the facilities in the park were constructed during the Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC), and had that park-y feel in a number of areas, such as the road edges. The area is much more wooded than DFW, and has some rare rocky outcroppings. Although by myself, I couldn't help but carefully ascend some more straightforward sections. It rained heavily the night before, resulting in trail closures in the north section of park. After having hiked the popular sections in the east, I drove to the amphitheatre to start the Lake Mineral Wells Trailway. I hiked to Garner, and then returned back to the park.

After returning to my vehicle, I had an early barbeque supper in Mineral Wells, and then returned to Dallas.
