We planned a simple, enjoyable hike through Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine State Forest Northern Unit, near Koehler, Wisconsin. After parking at the trailhead near Crooked Lake, we headed north on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. By late afternoon, we reached Kettle View Road and headed east on the trail to the Parnell Tower. The views across the state forest were spectacular. After these rich views, we continued north past the Parnell Shelter and camped near the Greenbush Kettle shelter. The group with the reservation allowed us to tent camp beyond their area. The next day, we hiked all the way back to the trailhead and returned to Chicago.
