My son moved to Seattle and we both wanted to climb a peak during our visit. We heard a lot about Mt. Si and thought that would be a nice half-day challenge after which we could reset and spend the rest of the day with the entire family.

We left Seattle before 5am and arrived at the Little Si Trailhead around 6am. It was already drizzling, and we donned our rain gear. As we moved up the mountain, it continued to rain, and the temperature was dropping. This was a June day, but it was cold. It was one of those days where you are just as wet in your rain gear as you might be without wearing rain gear. At least it felt that way. Combined with the cold, I was feeling very chilled and became concerned about hypothermia. Meanwhile, all sorts of people wearing shorts and trail runners were passing us in both directions.

After putting on a dry shirt, we carried on and by 10am were reached the summit. There was light snow on the peak! I guess that is common for these cascade mountains. We took a few pictures in the cold and then hastily scurried down the trail. We returned to downtown Seattle before Noon. Although we intended the hike to be a short adventure before the rest of day, it took a lot more out of us than we anticipated.
